Uniting Over Ramen: A Team-Building Ramen Class for Summer Interns at Deloitte in San Francisco

Interns gathering at The Story of Ramen cooking class as a team building activity

Summer internships are not just about gaining professional experience; they're also an opportunity to forge connections and create lasting memories. Jessica Land, Campus Recruiter at Deloitte Services, recently experimented with a unique team-bonding activity: hosting a ramen-making class for our summer interns. The result? A delightful blend of teamwork, creativity, and, of course, delicious ramen!

Why Ramen for Interns?

Ramen is more than just a popular dish—it's a culinary journey that brings people together. Its rich history and varied flavors provide the perfect backdrop for a team-building exercise. By making ramen from scratch, our interns not only learned a new skill but also experienced firsthand the power of collaboration and creativity.

The Setup

Jessica partnered with San Francisco-based The Story of Ramen that specializes in hosting ramen making workshops for team building activities. The school provided expert chefs who guided our interns through the entire process, from kneading the dough for noodles to simmering the broth.

The Experience

The day began with introductions over four sake or tea tastings—a calming start to the session. Interns were then divided into small teams, each responsible for a specific component of the ramen: noodles, broth, toppings, and garnishes.

Under the guidance of the chefs, our interns embraced their roles enthusiastically. Some were elbows-deep in flour, expertly shaping noodles; others tended to simmering broth pots, infusing them with aromatic flavors.

Teamwork in Action

The real magic happened during the assembly phase. As each team completed their assigned tasks, they came together like pieces of a puzzle. The broth was ladled into bowls, topped with perfectly cooked noodles, and adorned with an array of toppings—soft-boiled eggs, tender pork belly, and crisp bamboo shoots.

The Taste of Success

Finally, the moment of truth arrived. With bowls of steaming ramen in hand, our interns gathered around communal tables. Laughter and conversation flowed freely as they savored their creations. In that shared meal, barriers dissolved, friendships formed, and bonds strengthened.

Takeaways

Jessica commented: "Hosting a ramen making class for team building for interns in San Francisco was more than just a fun activity; it was a lesson in unity. Our interns discovered the importance of communication, cooperation, and mutual respect. They left with full stomachs and hearts, carrying with them a newfound sense of camaraderie that will undoubtedly enhance their internship experience.

At Deloitte, we believe in fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. Our ramen-making adventure was a testament to our commitment to nurturing not just professional growth but also personal connections."

If you're looking for a unique team-building activity that combines learning with laughter, consider hosting a ramen making class. It's an experience that's as enriching as it is delicious!
